How To Do a Presentation (Pretty Pictures Edition)
December 6, 2011
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a leader and orator without equal. While studies suggest that many folks would rather die than speak in public, presentation skills are a necessary tool for influencers of all stripes. The next time you are asked to speak publicly, rather than praying to be hit by a beer truck, maybe you should try some of the tips below.
Know Your Stuff – Choose a topic with which you are well-versed. Even if you forget your prepared lines, you can ad lib or share personal experiences.
Practice! – Then practice again. Then practice some more. Keep practicing. Seriously, keep going.
Do Not Apologize – Saying, “I’m sorry I’m so nervous!” only serves as a self-fulfilling prophecy and makes things awkward for those in the audience.
Engage Others – The more you let them interact, the more they will like you.
Get Feedback – Bring a trusted friend to provide you ideas for improvement as well as pats on the back.
