Movie Monday: The Paradox of Choice

We’ve long been inundated with the idea that more is better in terms of choices. This idea permeates everything from the way we offer health plans to employees (“Which of these 17 plans best suits your needs?”) to the way retailers like Wal-Mart go to market (“Want freezer pizza? We’ve got you covered 29 different ways”). However, an increasing body of knowledge shows that sometimes less is more when making a decision, and that too many decisions tend to overwhelm people. This being the case, how do you offer your employees appropriate freedom without causing anxiety?
